Beeswax
Beeswax, a treasured commodity in ancient times, is a natural material produced only by honeybees. It is impervious to water, unaffected by mildew, does not deteriorate over time, has a melting point of about 145-150 degrees F, is pliable at 100 degrees F and should only be heated using a double boiler as it is flammable when subjected to fire. As honey is harvested, the top layer of wax that covers the honey cells is removed. These cappings are then cleaned and melted to form beeswax cakes.
